Help at Home
Reading
Reading Diary
Please record when your child reads at home in their reading diary. Please aim for at least 4 reads at home every week as reading as often as possible will really help with your child's pace and fluency.
Little Wandle Phonics Reading Book
We read this book in school and then send it home once your child has read it with their teacher at least 2 times. We focus on decoding words on the first read, and then reading with expression and answering questions in the second read. Please continue to share this book at home to support these skills.
Oxford Reading Tree Book
This is an additional reading book for your child to read at home.

Tricky Words
It is helpful for children to be able to read tricky words that cannot be sounded out using Phonics because they have tricky parts in the word, such as the ‘a’ in ‘was’.
Please take a few minutes to practice 3 or 4 tricky words a week. Your child needs to be able to read and write them. We have enclosed a document listing all the words they need to know with some guidance on how to practise.
