Year 1

Hello and welcome to Class Apia & Wellington!

The teachers in Year 1 are Mrs Koletzki, Miss Barker and Mrs Rowe.

Mrs Koletzki will be teaching Class Apia. Miss Barker will be teaching Class Wellington on Monday and Tuesday and Mrs Rowe on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Our teaching assistant is Mrs Gibson.  Mrs Nyanhi will also be supporting some children in the cohort.

Here is some key information about Year 1:

  • Year 1 have PE on Monday mornings and Wednesday afternoons. Please ensure that PE kits remain in school and are only taken home for the half-term holidays. Anyone with ears pierced will either need to take their earrings out for the lesson or cover these with plasters/micropore tape, which are provided for by their family.
  • Diaries are checked every Monday and this is the day your child will receive a new book. They will not be able to receive a new book if they have not returned their old one. Please bring your child's book into school everyday as we try to read with them as often as possible.
  • To support your child with their reading, please read their school book with them at least 4 times per week and write a comment in their Reading Diary.
  • Your child will also receive a book for enjoyment that they have chosen themselves from our school library. They may not be able to read this book independently, it is for you to share and enjoy as a family.
  • Your child will also have a set of spellings sent home every Friday. Children are tested on their spellings every Friday.
  • Please send your child with a water bottle each day, which is filled with water and ideally labelled. When we move into the summer months please also ensure that your child has a sun hat and sun cream applied.

If you ever want to find out what we are learning across the curriculum, we will post the topic webs on the website and on Class dojo. Please see the 'Help at Home' tab on the right for more information.

As always, if you have any questions please send us a message via dojo or come and see us.

Many thanks,

Mrs Koletzki, Miss Barker & Mrs Rowe
