Year 5/6 Sportshall Athletics

After competing in Sportshall Athletics several times the children were excited and eager to get the competition underway. We travelled to Trinity School where there were seven schools in total competing for a top three finish to go through to the semi-finals. The children performed well in their track and field events with lots of 1st and 2nd place finishes. After two hours of fierce competition the results were announced with Milford coming joint 1st overall with 282 points! We are already looking forward to the semi-finals on Thursday 30th November!

Cross Country Relays

As our Year 5s & 6s were unavailable for this event eight Year 4s bravely took their place. We arrived at Colwick Park a little apprehensive about the upcoming race against older children. Teams consisted of 4 athletes. Each athlete had to run around the lake (approx 1500m) with a baton that was then passed onto the next athlete in the team. The final athlete wore a vest signalling they were the fourth and final athlete and the time was recorded as they crossed the finish line.

A strong finish!

The girls team raced first competing against 30 other schools, followed by the boys team. They did themselves proud and raced their hearts out and they put in tremendous effort to finish 9th and 11th overall. An unbelieveable performance!

A fantastic team effort!

Year 4 Table Tennis Festival

Eight of our young table tennis players attended an extended coaching session at The Farnborough Academy. The children really enjoyed themselves learning new skills and playing some games with children from Glapton. They particularly enjoyed being coached by some ex-Milford pupils who helped out on the day. The Farnborough Academy is the best secondary school for table tennis in the city and they are confident that the production and line of talent from Milford is going to continue. Many of the children were also delighted with their first table tennis medal. Hopefully it will be the first of many!

Year 4/5 Athletics Finals

We are nearing the end of a very exciting and successful Sports season. Our latest event saw the children competing in another final at Harvey Hadden Stadium. Although we were very successful in the heats, the standard in the final was very high with our children competing against trained athletes. The children put in another fantastic performance, despite the rain, coming 6th overall. Whilst the children were disappointed they must remember that there are over 70 schools in Nottingham and they finished in the top 7 which is an amazing achievement!

We will continue to practise and improve and come back fighting!

Go for Gold Fun Run

14 keen runners from KS2 travelled to Colwick Park to take part in a fun run. Despite the torrential rain the children were eager to get started and earn their bands. When they completed their first lap of the lake they were awarded a bronze band, a silver for two laps and a gold if they completed three laps. The children were determined to complete all three laps and were all awarded gold bands! It was fantastic to see them cheering each other on and running around in groups. A brilliant team effort!

Year 4/5 Quad Kids Athletics Heats

10 boys and girls travelled to Harvey Hadden to compete in the Nottingham City Schools Quad Kids heats. The children competed at the athletics stadium, which at first they found quite daunting. The competition was very tough, with some children from other schools being experienced athletes. As always Milford tried their best demonstrating their skills both on the track and on the field. Each athlete took part in a 50m sprint, 400m run, howler throw, standing long jump and 8x50m relay. The children put in an unbelievable performance, especially in the 400m run and deservedly won a place in the semi-finals coming 2nd overall, out of 8 schools, in the heat! A special mention must go to Grace who won a bronze medal for coming 3rd overall out of all the girls who competed – a fantastic achievement!

Year 5/6 Development Football Tournament

On Wednesday 12 children attended the Year 5/6 football tournament at Central College. The sun was shining and the children thoroughly enjoyed competing against 6 other schools following a mini-soccer rules format. The children played 5 v 5 with the girls playing the first half and the boys playing the second half. The girl’s confidence grew as the games went on with only 2 goals being conceded in the entire tournament! The players won all 6 games and went on to win gold medals! It was a pleasure to see both the boys and girls cheering each other on and the team spirit showed by all the children.

A fantastic result to be proud of! Well done!

KS2 Swimming Gala

A young, inexperienced and nervous group of swimmers attended our first City Swimming Gala on Wednesday at the recently refurbished Harvey Haddon swimming pool. It was a lot of fun and while the team came 11th out of the 12 participating schools there was no lack of effort and determination. All of the team came from Year 4 & 5 and can come back next year physically stronger and with the technique to swim even faster. A huge well done to the Parents and Carers who take their children to private swimming lessons. These lessons are not cheap but they make a massive difference to child confidence and safety in the water. Next year we will be moving up that table and well done again to the children who took part.

KS1 Agility Festival

Although the 20 year one children were nervous at the beginning, our 2 teams of whales and pandas joined in with great enthusiasm. The event was run by Sports Science Students at Nottingham Trent University. They put the children at ease and helped then to hop, skip and run through different races. There were also some very interesting cooperative games which the children loved.

All of the children were a credit to themselves and The Milford Academy.

Year 3/4 Sportshall Athletics Finals

After two weeks of training the children were ready and very excited to take part in the final. To win a medal we knew we had to finish consistently in the top 3 in each event. The children competed better than ever against some very tough opposition with some winning their individual events! After two hours of fierce competition the results were announced with Milford coming third overall with 176 points! An outstanding performance and result never before achieved by a Year 3/4 team.

Well done children we are all so proud of you!

16 Year 5 children thoroughly enjoyed themselves on Monday at Harvey Hadden playing a range of new sports with other schools that included Dodgeball, Matball and indoor Curling. Year 3/4 Football Tournament at Trent University

Milford’s scratch team of 8 boys and 2 girls battled heroically with five other schools, most of whom didn’t send any girls in their teams which was disappointing. All of the team battled hard and were learning all the time against some very skilful opponents. The children earned one victory, one draw and one loss; a heroic 1-0 defeat to the eventual winners Glapton. The team have the potential to improve and hopefully will attend the Football After-School Club to keep practising their skills. Our player of the tournament was Kian Keaton, who was an excellent goalkeeper and was very busy on the day!

Year 2 Gymnastics Festival

Some of the Year 2s took part in their first gymnastics festival at Farnborough School.

The children showcased their gymnastics skills by performing in a series of routines that demonstrated the pike, tuck and straddle positions that they had been learning at school.

They performed their routines both on floor and benches making sure their fingers and toes were always pointed.

Well done Year 2s you made us very proud!

Sportshall Athletics Semi-Finals

Some of our Year 5s and 6s took part in the Sportshall Athletics Semi-Finals at Harvey Haddon. The children competed in different track and field events against some tough competition. Out of the 6 schools that were competing the top 3 schools went through to the finals. Unfortunately, despite our best efforts and much to the disappointment of the children we missed out by only a few points on a top 3 place. That puts us in the top 10 schools in Nottingham City which is a fantastic achievement! Well done to all the athletes who took part!
