KS2 Athletics Final

After the children’s recent success, we were through to the Athletics County Final. This was a first for Milford. There were 8 teams in total out of 160 overall in Nottingham. We were heading in with no expectations. We knew this would be a tough challenge however, our children rose to the challenge beating their personal times. The children did extremely well fighting for the top 3, when the results came in, it was too close to call. Overall we came 4th missing out on a medal with only 10 points between us and 3rd place. This was our last event of the school year and the children did amazingly well!

KS2 Athletics Finals

After a successful semi-final, it was now time for the qualifying team to represent the school in the final at Harvey Hadden. All athletes competed in a 50m sprint, 400m run, vortex howler throw and a standing long jump. There were 11 teams in total and this time the competition was at its very best. Each race had two heats, this meant that the children didn’t know how well they were doing overall. This gave them even more grit and determination to push harder at each event.

All the children achieved at least one personal best in their event from the last competition. Two of our athletes came in the top 3 for their individual performance. One child received a Bronze medal and the other achieved a Silver medal. After the long wait the results were in…

Milford Academy came 1st!

Another amazing achievement from our athletes. The sports team are so proud of all your hard work, resilience and dedication. We will go through to the County Finals on Friday 6th July.

Go for Gold Fun Run

On Tuesday 44 children from Key Stage 2 took part in a Go For Gold Fun Run at Harvey Hadden. The children had to run around a 1000km circuit, which was marshalled by children from a secondary school. Each time they completed one lap they received a wrist band.

They were awarded a Bronze band for their first lap, Silver for their second and then they went for Gold on their third! For each extra lap that was completed the children got a sticker.

Everyone from Milford got a Gold band with most of the children managing to do more laps with some running an amazing 6 laps! A big thank you to all the children that took part. You all showed the Milford Values by being motivated and determined.

Year 5/6 Kwick Cricket Tournament

On Monday afternoon 8 girls from Year 4 and 5 went to Victoria Embankment to take part in a cricket tournament. It was a glorious afternoon where 9 teams took part in a round robin (winner goes through). The competition was for Years 5 and 6 but the Year 6’s were on a trip, so it was down to the younger girls to take their place and do Milford proud. The team won one, drew two and lost one game, this meant that they won the group. They then played in the third and fourth playoff game which they won! The girls bowled really well, played some fantastic strokes and worked well together as a team. Excellent result girls!

KS2 Swimming Gala

A group of year 4, 5 and 6 children attended a City Swimming Gala at Harvey Hadden Sports Village. This competition tested the ability, teamwork and the determination of the children. The swimmers that were chosen have or have had lessons out of school and this was shown on the day as out of 7 schools the team came 1st. When the places were announced the children were ecstatic to receive a Gold medal! A big well done as this is the schools first Gold medal at a swimming competition.

Year 3/4 Sportshall County Finals

After the children’s recent success, we were through to the Sportshall County Finals. As this was a first for Milford, we were heading into the unknown. As we knew the competition would be very tough, we went to try our best and enjoy the occasion without any expectations. However, we made a fantastic start and after a few events we knew we had a chance to compete for a medal. Some of the children improved their times on the day giving us an even better chance of a top 3 finish. When the results were announced, we were absolutely thrilled to receive a silver medal – placing us second in the whole of Nottinghamshire for Sportshall Athletics! This season has proved to the children how hard work can pay off. Well done again to everyone who competed!

KS2 Table Tennis Tournament

More medals for Milford at the City Table Tennis event with a Silver and Bronze for the A and B teams. The winners, Middleton, proved just too strong on the day but all the players played well and improved during the competition. Nerves were an issue at the start but all our players played some great shots and had some great games and some of them will be back to go for Gold next year. Well done to the unbeaten Grace and the rest of the players.

Boys Football

On Thursday 19th April the boys football team played Highbank Primary School in the last game of the league. Due to a poor start, we went 2-0 down in the first half. However, the boys came out in the second half and played amazingly well due to us passing the ball more accurately and a much better defence. We conceded no goals in the second half and the boys drew level, 2-2. We were very pleased to come away with a point as Highbank are one of the best teams in the league. Well done boys. A super season!

Despite the finals being on our Inset day, 26 children and some of their parents came into school so we could travel altogether to the finals. The bus was full of excited chatter about the afternoon ahead. With their parents support cheering on all of the team from the sidelines it spurred them on to their best efforts. By the end of an exhausting afternoon , the results were announced! All children, staff and parents waited in anticipation. Milford won gold!! An unbelieveable achievement never done before by a Milford team! Now we are preparing for County Finals in May!

It was excellent game by every player, goalkeeper to strikers. After not winning a match for a long time the girls were thrilled that they had won!. Hopefully after this win our morale will be boosted and we can win more games in the future.  All staff were so pleased for the girls and are looking forward for the future of girl’s football. Cross Country Relays

As our Year 5s & 6s were unavailable for this event eight Year 4s bravely took their place. We arrived at Colwick Park a little apprehensive about the upcoming race against older children. Teams consisted of 4 athletes. Each athlete had to run around the lake (approx 1500m) with a baton that was then passed onto the next athlete in the team. The final athlete wore a vest signalling they were the fourth and final athlete and the time was recorded as they crossed the finish line.

A strong finish!

The girls team raced first competing against 30 other schools, followed by the boys team. They did themselves proud and raced their hearts out and they put in tremendous effort to finish 9th and 11th overall. An unbelieveable performance!

A fantastic team effort!

Year 4 Table Tennis Festival

Eight of our young table tennis players attended an extended coaching session at The Farnborough Academy. The children really enjoyed themselves learning new skills and playing some games with children from Glapton. They particularly enjoyed being coached by some ex-Milford pupils who helped out on the day. The Farnborough Academy is the best secondary school for table tennis in the city and they are confident that the production and line of talent from Milford is going to continue. Many of the children were also delighted with their first table tennis medal. Hopefully it will be the first of many!

Year 4/5 Athletics Finals

We are nearing the end of a very exciting and successful Sports season. Our latest event saw the children competing in another final at Harvey Hadden Stadium. Although we were very successful in the heats, the standard in the final was very high with our children competing against trained athletes. The children put in another fantastic performance, despite the rain, coming 6th overall. Whilst the children were disappointed they must remember that there are over 70 schools in Nottingham and they finished in the top 7 which is an amazing achievement!

We will continue to practise and improve and come back fighting!

KS2 Swimming Gala

A young, inexperienced and nervous group of swimmers attended our first City Swimming Gala on Wednesday at the recently refurbished Harvey Haddon swimming pool. It was a lot of fun and while the team came 11th out of the 12 participating schools there was no lack of effort and determination. All of the team came from Year 4 & 5 and can come back next year physically stronger and with the technique to swim even faster. A huge well done to the Parents and Carers who take their children to private swimming lessons. These lessons are not cheap but they make a massive difference to child confidence and safety in the water. Next year we will be moving up that table and well done again to the children who took part.
