Physical Education and School Sports at The Milford Academy

PE and sport develops our children’s knowledge and skills, so that they can perform with increasing competence and confidence in a range of physical activities. These areas of the curriculum develop an understanding in children of their bodies in action and promote positive attitudes towards health and well-being. This enables children to make informed choices about physical activity throughout their lives. We pride ourselves on our many sporting achievements, opportunities and the reputation we have for being pro sport.

Aims:

  •  To make PE and sport enjoyable and accessible for all.
  •  To embed the physical literacy, emotional and thinking skills needed to succeed in PE and sport, with its benefits across the whole curriculum.
  •  To improve standards of achievement in PE and sport.
  •  To promote physical exercise and healthy lifestyle choice.

The school has a wide range of after school clubs available for all pupils, many of which then allow a large number of pupils to participate in City competitions to which the school is becoming more successful in.

Extra curricular activities we offer:

  • Boys football
  • Girls football
  • Handball
  • Athletics
  • Basketball
  • Multi-skills
  • Table tennis
  • Dodgeball

In addition to this 2 sports coaches and a sports apprentice are employed by the school to help facilitate high quality teaching and provision within all year groups.

At The Milford Academy we are extremely proud of the PE and sporting provision we offer our pupils and aim to further improve and develop this across the academic year 2018 – 2019.  In order to continue offering our pupils a diverse range of PE and sporting opportunities the Department for Education PE/Sports Grant is supplemented from the school budget with the full approval of the Governing Body.
