Black History Month 2020

Purpose – To celebrate diversity and how individuals from different cultures have made a positive contribution to our lives and to expose the children to role models which allow them to feel proud of their background and ethnicity.

During Black History Month at The Milford Academy, the children in each phase learnt about influential black individuals who have succeeded in lots of different areas of the curriculum including English, science, sports, art, music and history. They were inspired by stories of courage, creativity and determination when learning about: Michelle Obama, Madame C J Walker, Noor Inayat Khan, Ella Fitzgerald, Malorie Blackman, Daniel Hale Williams, Jesse Owens, Jean Michel-Basquiat, Harriet Tubman, Marie Maynard Daley, Kelly Holmes, Chris Ofili, Josephine Baker, Mae Jamison, Usain Bolt, Kara Walker and Faith Ringgold.
