Year 5 and 6 Trip to The National Holocaust Centre and Museum – Friday 13th March 2020

As part of our World War II topic, we have organised a visit to The National Holocaust Centre for the children in Classes 11, 12, 14 and 15 on Friday 13th March.  The Holocaust Centre promotes an understanding of the roots of discrimination and prejudice and we feel that this trip would be extremely valuable to your child/children.  All content discussed will be suitable for primary-aged children.

As we need to leave school promptly at 9am, the children will need to be in school for 8.30am. If your child is late to school they will be unable to attend the trip. We should be back at school in time for home-time.

Your child will need a packed lunch for the day or alternatively one can be ordered from the school kitchen.  Please let your child’s class teacher know by Friday 28th February if your child requires a lunch from school.

We have tried to keep the cost of this trip as low as we possible and therefore school will be covering the cost of £715 for the coach to and from the Holocaust Centre. We would like to ask you for a voluntary contribution of £7.00 per child to cover the cost of the session at the centre. Please bring any money in a named envelope or alternatively you can pay online through Parent Pay. If your child is entitled to free school meals there will be no charge however a contribution towards the cost would be greatly appreciated.

If you have any queries about the trip, please do not hesitate to contact your child’s class teacher.

World War Two

In Year 6, we have been learning all about World War Two. To help us to understand what it is like to be in the army, one of our children brought in a real army kit including a ration box – her dad works as a mechanic and driver for the army. It was really interesting to see these in real life!

Two children in the class also made air raid shelters as part of their holiday homework. Well done to those children and their families for these fantastic models!

Year 5 and 6 Aladdin Trouble Pantomime

This year’s Year 5 and 6 pantomime will be Aladdin Trouble. Our performances will be on Thursday 16th January 2020 at 10am, and Friday 17th January at 2pm. In response to feedback from last year, we have once again decided not to put on an evening performance. Due to the nature of the show, we would need 100% attendance for each performance and this cannot be guaranteed for an evening show. I’m sure you can appreciate how difficult it would be for the children to perform with major characters missing or a small chorus to sing the songs.

Tickets will be available from the office from Wednesday 11th December (8.30am), where you will be able to collect 2 tickets per family. Any spare tickets will become available on Wednesday 18th December and into the new year.

It has been great to see the enthusiasm from the children at this early stage of practising and we are all really looking forward to putting on a great pantomime for you, once again!

Many Thanks

The Upper Key Stage 2 Team

Rainbow Reading

Rainbow Reading has launched and the Year 6 books are nearly ready for children to borrow from school. Remember to look out for the books in Clifton Library too. Well done to the children who have already started making their way through the book list!

Goose Fair Trip

The children visited Goose Fair on Friday 4th October and had a fantastic times. They were able to use the fair and its rides as inspiration for their own amazing fairground rides.

Thank you so much to all the parents who volunteered their time to support this trip
