Class 5

Welcome to Class 5!

Class 5 is a Year 2 class taught by Miss Broughton. Our Teaching Assistants is Ms. Cutts.

Ms. Cutts also teaches the class on Tuesday afternoons.

This half term the children have enjoyed our topic on ‘Plants’. We started the topic by looking closely at plants and trees and labelling the main parts.

All children planted their own sunflower seed. They discussed what a seed would need to grow. The children could describe how plants need water, light and a suitable temperature to grow and stay healthy. They predicted what they thought would happen to their seed.

We check our seeds regularly to see if they need anymore water.

We conducted an experiment and compared the growth of seedlings under different conditions. The children predicted what they thought would happen under the 4 conditions and then evaulated their findings.

Some of our seeds have started to germinate!

Some children did some extra planting and outdoor education in a small group.

Look at our fantastic cress heads!

Our topic on Plants has supported our writing in English. This half term we have been learning how to write instructions. In their writing the children included time words, adverbs, linking words, commas and suffixes to write detailed instructions on how to plant a seed.

Here’s an example of fantastic presentation and handwriting.

The children have been learning how to put together a PowerPoint Presentation. They took pictures which they inserted into slides, added text and formatted the design of each slide.

This year the SATs will be throughout May with the Reading papers first in Week 4 and then the Maths papers in Week 6. Please make sure your child attends school, on time, during Summer A to ensure that we can support them during this process.

Please support your child with their homework over the Easter Holidays.

Important Information

Reading Diaries

Children will receive a series of tasks on Fridays to be completed by the following Friday. The tasks are to be completed in the children’s reading diaries. This gives families the flexibility to complete tasks in any order and over the weekend if this is more convenient.

PE Kits

Please ensure children have a complete kit in school at all times. We would really appreciate all items to be named. Please could all earrings be covered (please provide tape or plasters) or removed on Wednesdays and Fridays.

Snack Money

Children need to bring in £5 for snack for the term. Your support with this is greatly appreciated.

Please keep visiting our page to find out about some of the wonderful work the children are covering in school.
