Maths and Science at The Farnborough Academy

Following a warm welcome by Mr Chaloner, we quickly made our way to the Farnborough Science labs. We had the opportunity to light Bunsen burners and change the flames. In our second session, we identified metals using the colour of the flames. We now know what gives fireworks their colours.

In the afternoon, we explored the difference between an expression and an equation in mathematics. In the second lesson, we completed a maths relay. In small groups we had to complete challenge cards. We beat the current record and achieved 11 correct answers!

Well done to the Year 5 children for their excellent behaviour whilst at Farnborough and for coping so well despite the high temperatures.

Croak!

You are warmly invited to come and watch our performance of “Croak!” on Wednesday 24th July. It is the story of a tadpole, who is not at all sure of himself as he turns into a frog, but he is delighted that he can now sing with his froggy friends!

Morning children will be performing at 10.00am and afternoon children at 2.00pm

We have had great fun learning the songs and putting the story together, so please come along and celebrate the end of the year with us.

Pond life

Our theme throughout this term is all about Water.

We started our term looking at pond life. the children really enjoyed creating their very own pond and filling it with different types of  pond life and foliage.

Firstly we visited our school pond to get some ideas for creating our own pond.

The children collected leaves, twigs, logs and other exciting things to put our pond.

We carefully placed the frog  in the area of fresh water on the pond.

By using the magnifying glass we could search for creatures living in the pond.

Next week we will be at different types of habitat where some animals find shelter or food.
