Nottingham Contemporary project

Year  4 Nottingham Contemporary Art Project

Dear Parents and Carers,

Class 9 and 10 are involved in a very exciting project with The Nottingham Contemporary Art Gallery in Nottingham City Centre. To begin the project, Year 4 children will visit the Gallery on the morning of Wednesday 14st November.

We will leave The Milford Academy and catch a tram into Nottingham city centre.  At the Gallery, we will view the exhibition and participate in workshops.  The Gallery visit will take place between 10.00 and 12.00. Lunch will be eaten at the Gallery then we will return to school. Everyone will need a packed lunch for that day.  Children entitled to a free school meal will be given a lunch bag from school.

The Gallery exhibition is called, ‘Still I Rise’ and  is a major group exhibition  exploring  the role women have played in the history of resistance movements and the creation of alternative forms of living since the late 19th century.  Images will be discussed sensitively and age appropriately.

Following the Gallery visit, there will be two workshops in school with project artists who will develop ideas from the exhibition with the children. Children will then create their own art work.

The project will end in an exhibition of the children’s work at the Nottingham Contemporary Gallery .The exhibition will take place on the weekend of  9th and 10th March but pupils will also visit the exhibition at the gallery with school on 7th or 8th March.

We are all very excited about the project. It is an amazing opportunity for the children to explore ideas, get creative, discuss issues, develop confidence and enjoy exhibiting their work!

For the Gallery visit on Wednesday 14st November, each class will need at least four parent helpers.  It is essential that we have additional adult support to travel safely to and from the gallery on the tram. If you are able to commit to helping on the day, please let us know by returning the slip below.

The cost of the visit to the Gallery is funded by school and the Nottingham Contemporary. A donation of £1.00 would be appreciated to cover the cost of the tram.

We are all looking forward to this exciting project.

Thank you,

Mrs Haslam and Mr Goff,
